Marcelle Schoenmaker’s passion for ceramics started whilst studying her Bachelor of Architecture Degree in Sydney, at the University of New South Wales.
In-depth studies in ceramics took her across the globe to research medieval paving tiles in England, where she wrote her graduating dissertation. Since then, she has made numerous trips all over Europe to further research and study ceramics and photo ceramics.
Ceramics has always been an integral and dynamic element in her Architectural work.
It was Marcelle’s father, Nicolaas, who reignited her interest with his own research into how digital technology and unique ceramic toners has brought a new dimension to photo ceramics. His tenacity and investigation in his familiar native Netherlands and neighbouring Germany were able to source and import to Australia the latest printers, ceramic toners, developers and kilns for firing.
Beautiful and lasting images are printed and placed on the porcelain substrate, fired for over eight hours at high temperatures, to produce a product that can withstand the elements.
The brilliant image becomes an embedded, permanent part of the porcelain which will not fade with time or exposure to bright sunlight: it is an immutable, scratch-resistant process.
Photo Ceramic Memories brings this latest European technology, latest Photoshop applications to produce memorial plaques and exclusive jewellery, thoughtfully and professionally designed on beautifully glazed Italian porcelain tiles.
The possibilities are endless. Photo Ceramic Memories is constantly investigating new and innovative applications for this technology.
